Museos (Cuenca #3)

Pumapungo

It is an etnobotanic park (parque etnobotánico arqueológico ). It is located in donwtonwn Cuenca. You can see the ruins when passing by on the main road. It is a big museum, we did not visit all.

The main attraction for us, was the canari ruins. We visited also the exhibition of bank history.

The visit trough the ruins is self guided. You can find info on the trails. At the end of the trail, there is a beatituful artificial pound, farm graden, and a small native forest. There is a place to sit and relax. The atmhosphere is tranquile.

MUSEO DE ARTE MODERNO

Located in San Sebastian neighborhood, the Museum of Modern Art exhibits collections of painting, drawing, screen printing, engraving, etching, photography and sculpture from local and international artist. The museum also host the International Biennal of Cuenca since its first edition in 1987.  However this colonial house built in 1878 and became a house for alcoholics and ill people. After the house was transformed into a prison, and later it worked as a homeless elder shelther.
